Cox's Company, Benavides Cavalry Regiment

My gg grandfather, Elihu Littleberry Kirksey, applied for a Confederate pension. According to his application, he served in Cox's Co. under Santos Benavides and Rip Ford. He was only able to find one witness of his service, as the rest had all passed on. They found no record of his service in Benavides' Regt, but did find an E.L. Kirksey who had served in the 17th Infantry, Co. K. This is what appears on his tombstone. Problem is, the E.L. Kirksey of Company K was his Uncle Ervin L. Kirksey who died at Millikens Bend, La. 7 Jun 1863! Wish I could clear this up.

Two questions-
1) What are some good sources of info on Benavides' regiment?
2) How do you go about getting a grave marker changed?
