O'siyo yourself Jim! When I saw your name on the board, I wondered if there was any chance the two of you were related, and I have used Ken's sources many times. Just terrific! It is so neat for everyone to be helping each other, and it seems to be mushrooming. The nice part is that it's good for everyone, with no end in site!A lofty goal would be for everyone to know all about all of their family lines! I am not a fan of modern wars, despite living through a couple of them, but researching the military service of my family members and the part they played in our history has grown on me to the point that I have become a real civil war (as well as Revolutionary War buff), and you know - the more we know, the more we are able to share. I've reached a point now, where I am happy to say that I am often able to help others in one area or the other. I gave up on William for a while, and went to my Ingram, Taylor, and Whitaker families, and boy has that been a doozer! Just fascinating. Matthew Parker of the Thomaslegion.com site and I have helped each other out a lot. His site is just getting bigger and better all of the time. Anyone with Eastern Band family who took part in the civil war should check it out, as most of them belonged to Thomas's Legion of Indians and Highlanders. There's some great human interest stories there. I think Ken has a lot about the Legion also, but it is truly Matthew's passion, and he keeps digging for more. Really fun.. May I also remind researchers looking for Texas kin in the civil war, not to overlook the sections on naval operations in the Red River Campaign. It would not have occured to me except that I have one of the volumes of "Battles and Leaders of the Civil War" which has the chapter on it. It was sort of like ignoring the obvious until I was lying in bed just reading through it one night, and I was floored at what popped out at me. William was in the cavalry, not the navy, but many of the operations in Louisiana and wherever there was water around them, involved them both. Check it out.. Thanks for the response, Jim. Pleasure to hear from you..
