One of the stories that he told his grandson was about being at Vicksburg and swimming out and planting a bomb of sorts and sinking a Union ship. My uncle says that there is a Historical Marker somewhere in the area that has a recounting of the event and that he has been there. Indeed, I do have a small snapshot of the family by a marker but of course, can't read it. I was in Vicksburg some years ago and did not find J R's name listed there but from what you relate about the 3rd; they weren't actually in the seige. You guys are doing a wonderful job!!!!!
