Re: 13th Texas Cavalry (Dismounted)

Dana -

You can link to Randy's Texas for the muster rolls of both Company B & C, both of which were from Houston County. Co B was commanded by Cpt. John T. Smith and Co C by Cpt. George English.

Of the names you asked about, F. A. Gossett enlisted in 10 Apr 1863, and was still present in Feb 64. Kelsey enlisted in Mar 1862, and was discharged as underage 15 Jul 1862 (He had said he was 19 when he enlisted.) Preston who also said he was 19 served out the war, was sick at Camp Nelson, Ark. in late 1862, and was present on the muster on the eve of the Red River campaign in Feb 1864. Frances M. Rice joined at the age of 21, but died of disease near Princeton, Ark. on 8 Sep 1862.

If you would like any of their service records, please contact me at BurnettsCav@aol.com.
