My best guess is Nathaniel A. Taylor, 31st Texas Cavalry, Company A, who became the regimental adjutant (thus probably a lieutenant or captain). This is from Hewett, "Confederate State Roster - Texas," page 520. The fact that this N.A.T. was an adjutant suggests he may have been sufficiently literate to correspond with a newspaper. After considerable searching, I could not find a second N.A.T., although there are a number of N.T.s This is probably a long shot, but then Sharpshooters were a creation of the WBTS.
