Re: Flags carried by troops in I.T.

Thanks, Jim. Our triennial reenactment ended 1.5 hours ago, so this is the first time I've been able to read messages for a while.

One source tells me the Indian Home Guards flags were those of a typical infantry regiment. The "Choctaw" flag which is seen in the 14 flags over Oklahoma display was the flag carried by Tandy Walker's regiment -- not the official flag of the Choctaw Nation -- this according to the late-Muriel H. Wright who created the 14 flags theme. (She also told me that at the NYC World's Fair, where the 14 were first displayed, the Confederate flag was the 1st National. However, when the then-State Insurance Commissioner adopted the pamphlet as an advertising venue, he mistook "Stars and Bars" for the naval jack and thus propagated the error in the displays seen today.)

I've not heard of the existence of a 4-(red) star pattern representing the other four tribes. -- but of course that doesn't mean that one doesn't exist.

More later, I hope.
