Re: John TUCKER
In Response To: Re: John TUCKER ()

Dear Craig,

Thank you for your reply about my John Tucker who "died in Texas at War"

I apologize for taking so looooong to reply; I'm not very computer-literate (obviously), and just now slogged through my (large) pile of genealogy papers and found your response!

Anyway, my John Tucker's middle initial MIGHT have been W (for William). This is just an extreme guess -- his firstborn grandson was named John William Tucker.

My John Tucker was alive in 1857 or 1858, as that is when his only child was born. John is "missing" from the 1860 Hancock County Tennessee census, where his wife (Polly/Mary)and child are found with other family members.

You are likely correct, John might have died in an Indian skirmish, not necessarily in the Civil War.

I believe John enlisted for the Mexican War, and remained in the military up to the Civil War. I believe he might have died right before the Civil War began. But nothing is for sure.

I appreciate your help.

Suzanne
