There were several cases of soldiers being in a different state for one reason or another, rather than their home state. A good example is 2Lt Charles W. Rainey, who went AWOL from the 11th Va. Inf. He came to Texas and joined Anderson's (Border's) Regiment Tex. Cav. and was elected a 2Lt. He served honorably until surrendered at wars end. Residence on his parole is Petersburg,Va.
