Notice in the referenced text, that a plank road was placed between the units for communications, ie., messengers could cross a boggy area easily. Orange Plank road is either a name or color designation. I am not familar with the toppgraphy of the Wilderness battle, so orange plank means nothing to me. May get to the east some day but to busy in the west.
