Lt. McCord's men killed thirty-eight men, 1860

Don Bowman,
.
Thank you for your informative posting. And I appreciate your reading my web page that presents the documentation that I've assembled in my attempt to make sense of the Guthrie 1929 memoir.
.
W.F. "Matt" Guthrie's 1929 article written just before he died. I now think Guthrie was recounting tales he had read in the newspaper and/or heard on a street corner while whittling, then confused with his actual military service. Maybe his direct descendants can make sense of this 1929 article. And yes, I contacted one of Guthrie's direct descendants, but he was no help. Surely someone in his family will continue this research.
.
Reason I'm studying this 1929 document. Was Guthrie one of the 14 men accompanying Lt. N.F. Carson in the Oct 1864 Elm Creek Raid? N.F. Carson had been in Bourland's Regt. since before Aug 31, 1863 as a lieutenant. Thus far, I have named eleven of the fourteen men who accompanied Carson. Guthrie would be number 12 of 14. His description of the Elm Creek Raid, in which five of Carson's men were killed, is credible.
.
I know I speak for readers of this message board when I express admiration and gratitude for your detailed Burleson-McCord 1860 outline. Are you compiling your "Burleson, McCord, and company" findings in a book that we can shelve? ... a book that I must have since McCord is mentioned on at least 40 pages of my book, that primarily addresses the last 1-1/2 year of the Civil War.
.
With warm regards,
.
