Re: Texas Ranger Post Guadalupe County

Jose...Pierce does not mention anything earlier then that in the early months of 1839 Seguin was used as headquarters for Mathew Caldwell's Gonzales County ranging company and that in the same year,Rangers under Ben and Henry McCulloch operated out of Seguin. These Rangers possibly may have staged from the site you mentioned near the center of the settlement as the Camp Seguin noted in 1842 was at Flores's Rancho on the west side of the Guadalupe opposite the town.

We know that Seguin was founded in 1838 as Walnut Springs.I do not know what year it became Seguin, possibly 1839.Pierce has extensive footnotes for his sources. You might locate his book and check these out for a more specific location.

You are most likely aware of the fights with Vicente Cordova and the Rangers near Seguin in March,1839.Several prisoners from this fight were executed. They were marched up the slope about a half mile west from town and dispatched under a clump of live oaks.I highly recommend,"The Savage Frontier 1838-1839," by Stephen Moore for an account of the Cordova fights. Also includes muster rolls of the Ranger companies.
