Re: Co. H, Parson's Reg. Cavalry, Harris Brigade

Organized by Col. William H. Parsons, this regiment has been called Parsons' Regiment Texas Mounted Volunters and 12th Texas Cavalry Regiment, among other names. The regiment organized on Oct. 28, 1861, near Hempstead TX. At this time the "Williamson Bowies", Capt. Wiley J. Peace, was designated Co. "H". After the regiment reorganized for the war in May 1862, new Co. "H" was led by Capt. J. Em. Hawkins, a company organized in 1861 as the "Ellis Blues".

The regiment served in a cavalry brigade led by General Hawes. His name could be mistaken for 'Harris'.
