At the time of the Battle of Mansfield, April 8,1864, the 1st Texas Infantry was back with the Army of Northern Virginia after Longstreet's campaign in Tennessee, Corporal Robert Conner at the time was on sick furlough, most likely in the vicinity of his home. He had been wounded at Suffolk, VA on May 3, 1863.

Recorded on the May/Jun 1863 muster roll as Absent wounded, he received #7.50 for commutation of rations May 27, 1863 at Montgomery, Alabama; Jan/Feb, 1863 muster is reported as Absent on wounded furlough; Jul/Aug, 1864 recorded as "Absent, wounded at Suffolk, Va May 3, 1863, reports to Gen Smith, Was wounded at Mansfield, La," n. d.

Brother Joseph W. Conners, 20 year old Farmer, was certified for discharge, by reason of heavy disease and general disability, on June 14,1862, "has never been fit for duty," discharged June 24, 1864. He had enrolled January 26, 1862 in Tarrant County

How they got caught up at Mansfield presents an interesting puzzle.
