Thanks for the reply. Col. Peter C. Woods took about a months personal leave and went after the deserters in an effort to talk them back. That is documented, but just how successful he was is not documented. In this particular case, I know for certain that there are no Yankee skeletons in the family closet. I probably wouldn't be here if he had swapped sides considering the general nature and prevailing sentiments of the rest of his family. It is just another mystery among many, I guess.
My ancestor stayed in Texas and, at times, served as a Texas Ranger which he had done prior to the Civil War.
