Re: Company "C", Saufley's Scouting Battalion TX C

Saufley's Scouting Battalion, Texas Cavalry was a temporary field organization formed about February 1864 and broken up soon afterward. During its brief existence, this unit was involved in scouting along the Texas coast. The six companies of this battalion were drawn from the units that composed Major's Texas Cavalry Brigade (Baylor's, Chisum's, Crump's, and Madison's Regiments). Company C was composed of Companies H and F of Crump's Regiment, Texas Cavalry. After the battalion disbanded, the companies returned to their original commands.

Unfortunately, the history of the 7th Texas Infantry is too complicated for discussion here.
