Re: 22nd Tx.Cavalry To 34th.Tx Cavalry

Thank you George..I almost bought that book years ago and do recollect thumbing thru it looking for good stuff way back when.

I note in the History of Collin Co.by Stambaugh that in 1903 a complete muster roll of Company G was found among the papers of Major William M.Bush.That roll includes 46 soldiers that are not on the official muster roll in Nat.Archives.

S.H.Fox,former Collin Co.Commissioner and 4th Sgt in the Company reported the following history of the Company to a reporter of the McKinney Courier-Gazette.

"The members were all from Collin County, and it was organized with 9 other companies into a regiment in the Indian Territory about the 1st of Feb.,1862,and known at first as Alexander's regiment.afterwards as the 34th Texas Cavalry.Jordon O Straughn was our 1st Captain, but he was beyond the age limit when elected and soon succeeded by 1st.Lt Wm.M Bush, who was later promoted to the rank of Major, and W.N.Bush was promoted to captain, with J,M Fox my brother,as 1st Lt,and W.G.Barnes Second Lt.

We served in the early campaigns in the Territory,Arkansas and Missouri;were dismounted on the Arkansas River and were placed in the Infantry and later served in Louisiana and participated in all the battles of Bank's Campaign under Major General Dick Taylor in Morton's(Moutons?) Division,Polignack Brigade.

The list is composed of 120 names and the number of those who remained to the end and were disbanded at Hempstead,Texas,May,1865,were about twenty, perhaps a few more or less."
