This is a very interesting bit of information regarding troops from the Texas Frontier Regiment involved in guard duty near Hempstead. When I wrote my thesis on McCord (1965), I uncovered information regarding the movement of McCord and the regiment from camp on Onion Creek near Austin (still not sure exactly where they were in Travis County) in 1864 to Hempstead and ultimately, if I remember correctly, to near the coast. The structure of the thesis was such that exactly what was involved in these movements was of secondary importance, so I never developed it further. I'm going to find a copy of your book and try to fill in this particular gap.
