Re: Confererate Verterans Reunion, Dallas, TX !920

The large Confederate Monument presently located in Pioneer Park in downtown Dallas adjacent to the Conventiion Center was originally dedicated in April 1897 in Old City Park. It was moved in the early 1960s due to the construction of the I-30 freeway.

The monument had a center shaft with the stature of a Confederate soldier at the top. Around the Maltese Cross shaped base were four additional statutes: Robert E Lee, Jefferson Davis, Stonewall Jackson and Albert Sidney Johnson.

The daughter and grandson of Jefferson Davis and the widow and grandchildren of Stonewall Jackson were honored guests at the unveiling. I have a more complete account with all the names and details.

It was not in conjunction with the annual Confederate Reunion which was held in Nashville that year.
