It should be noted that Gen. R.E. Lee demoted Magruder and sent him to Texas to command the Texas State Troops. ..He arrived in Houston on Nov 29, 1863.

On Dec 22-23, 1864, the Comanches brutally attack the settlers of the Cooke-Montague County area after Acting General James Bourland had all his companies in their assigned defensive positions, save the Confederate Brush Battn, who were trying to procure supplies. .. Yes, Bourland was Acting General for several months.

On Jan 1, 1863, Magruder was in charge recapturing Galveston for the CSA.
