TST Capt Gilmore; Dec 1863; ? Seaborne Gillmore

Vicki Betts,
.
Thank you for the hints. Your suggestion "Seaborne Gillmore of Tarrant County" was probably correct. See a copy of the handwritten letter on my web page:

.
Who was the addressee "Capt. Gilmore" in this letter. Capt. Gilmore is written in a different hand than the fancy handwritten "form" letter. ... Was "Capt. Gilmore" meant to be "Seaborne Gilmore" a gent who was the same age as Col. James Bourland (1801-1879).

At this point I think TST Maj-General J.B. Magruder sent several copies of these handwritten pages to Col. James Bourland and expected him to relay the fancy-handwritten form letters to men they thought would raise a militia. ..(This fancy handwriting was not found in any other document in THE BOURLAND PAPERS plus the addressee is written in a different hand.) ..Bourland had probably known Seaborne Gillmore since the Mexican War and knew that his son had served in the 7th Texas Cavalry. Notice that Seaborne Gillmore died in 1867 at age 66, so it is possible that he was in ill health and Bourland did not deliver the Magrauder form letter.
