Thanks for the info. I'll check into the Texas State Archives.

I just did a quick search at the NARA site and found one Elias Davis in 6th Regiment, Texas Cavalry (Wharton, Stone's)
and one Mathew Davis in 11th Regiment, Texas Cavalry. But other than just index card info of name, rank, regiment and a summary of those regiments, the site doesn't seem to have any links to descriptive personal info on the individuals so I can verify the possibility if it's the same people I'm looking for, such as age, birthdate, county of residence, etc.
