Re: Civil War Confederate soldier record

Duane, I forgot to mention I also have the Old Family Bible of R.S. Lyles and his wife MaryJane nee Roberts.
R.S. Lyles date of Death is listed March 31st, 1865. Family Legend says he was on his way home after the War, when his party encountered some Union Soldiers that did not know of the Surrender, they fired on
the Confederate and R.S. Lyles was killed. This dosen't seem to be authentic since Lee did not surrender until
April 9th, 1865 and Gen Taylor did not surrender until Early May 1865. However he may well have been on the way Home when he was killed. Col Earp and some of the other Officers of the 10th Texas were home on
furlough when the War, And he could have started home with them. My late wife's father, A. W. Lyles,
told me his father, Louis N. Lyles, said he was told that he died in a dougout or trench early one morning as a result of a Yankee minnie ball. If he was still with his Company, he would have been at Spanish Fort Ala at
that time.
R.S. Lyles was one ot the Captians wounded at the Battle of Alatoona Pas in Oct 1864.
His service record ends before that date so it is hard to know what actually happened to him.
The Pocket Bible he carried throughout the War was returned to his wife in Rusk Co.., Texas by one of the returning Confederate Soldiers' at the end of the war.
My Wife's Cousins Had a Memorial Stone set in his memory, by His wife's Grave, in the Linn Flat Cemetery, Nacogdoches Co., Tex in 2005.
If anyone has any ideas on how I might find his Burial Place, I would appreciat It.
