Correction: 19th TX Infantry

Heather Chambers,
.
I have your "Lockey Butler" in one, maybe two records. He was in Waterhouse's 19th Infantry, not Cavalry. ..I try to include the commanding officers' name along with the number. ..Below is from my 200-page Name Index:
.
BUTLER, Lockey Butler (1838 TN-1914 Erath Co TX) m-Susan E. Burns, 3 ch; ; 1870 Clark Co AR cen; Waterhouse's 19th Inf, Co G, deserted July 31st, 1863 in Natchitoches, Louisiana (Titus Co, TST)

may be the same person as:

BUTLER, S.L. Butler, b-1842 (Sgt, Wise Co, TST)
.
I think your "Lockey Butler" was pressured to enroll in a Texas State militia after he deserted a Confederate unit in July 1863. .. I've studied many deserters who later joined militias. ..It was a common practice for a soldier to reverse their first and middle names when he enrolled in a 2nd military unit. Also, it makes sense that he was elected Sgt. because he was an experienced soldier unlike the neophyte settlers. Also, it is difficult to discern a handwritten "L" from an "S".
.
See the Maidson Freeman Price on my web page. He also deserted a Confederate unit in Louisiana then enlisted in a Wise Co TX militia.

Do you think this "S.L. Butler" was your "Lockey Butler"?
