R.R. Brown's 35th Cav w/ McCulloch Spr '63 ?

Question: Was Col. Reuben R. Brown's 35th Cavalry with Brig-Gen. H.E. McCulloch in the Spring of 1864 ? ... as THE HANDBOOK entry states.
.
CORRECTION: Maybe the author meant the "spring of 1863" instead of spring 1864.

Below is a selected excerpt from THE HANDBOOK OF TEXAS online.
.
BROWN, REUBEN R. (ca. 1808–?). ... Reuben R. Brown, soldier of the Republic of Texas and the Confederate States of America, was born in Georgia around 1808 and moved to Texas in November 1835 in company with Hugh and John Love, both also of Georgia. They traveled by way of Nacogdoches to Bexar ... When the Civil War broke out he was elected lieutenant colonel of Col. Joseph Bates's Thirteenth Texas Infantry and saw service on the Texas coast between Galveston and Matagorda Island, primarily near Brown's home at the mouth of the Brazos. In 1862 he was given command of an independent cavalry battalion, the Twelfth, made up of companies from Bates's regiment. Toward the end of 1863 Brown was promoted to colonel and organized and commanded the Thirty-fifth Texas Cavalry, a consolidation of his own and Maj. Lee C. Rountree's battalions. This regiment served in Texas until it was transferred to Louisiana in the spring of 1864 and saw action in BRIG. GEN. HENRY E. McCULLOCH's brigade of Walker's Texas Division during the Red River Campaign. Brown's was one of two regiments named the Thirty-fifth Texas Cavalry, the other being that of Col. James B. Likens. On July 19, 1881, the Texas Veterans' Board approved Brown's application for a pension. Pioneer Texas historian John Henry Brown referred to Reuben R. Brown as "a brave and intelligent man."

Also, the Brazos County TX census shows a different age.

I must point up this Oct 26, 1864 letter that Maj-Gen. J.G. Walker wrote to Brig-Gen. W.R. Boggs in the OFFICIAL RECORD in which he proposes a change in venues for Texas regiments that was not enacted. This could be confusing. per ORsIv41/4[S#86]p1014. Below is the first paragraph of this letter.
.
To: Brig-Gen. W.R. Boggs, Adjutant-Gen., Houston, Tx.
.
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 12th instant,
No. 4318, accompanied by a project for the organization of the troops in this district into
an army corps. As I am invited to make suggestions thereon, I would remark that if this
organization is intended, as would appear from that part of your letter where you say that
it is necessary in order that the proper returns may be forwarded to Richmond, I think the
organization you propose is as good as any other, but if it is intended that the troops
composing the brigades and divisions shall be drawn together and actually placed under
the command of the officers designated, it will involve the transportation of almost my
entire command. For instance, the Sixth Infantry Brigade, according to the project, would
consist of Bates' regiment, now at Velasco--mouth of Brazos; Hobby's regiment, at
Bolivar Point, Galveston Island, and Spaight's and Griffin's, at Sabine Pass. Of the
Seventh Texas Cavalry Brigade, five companies of Pyrons regiment are at Galveston, and
five on the Rio Grande. Baird's and Benavides' regiments at Brownsville and Anderson's
regiment at Hempstead. Of the Eighth Cavalry Brigade, Brown's and Bourland's .....................
regiments are in the Northern Sub District, Bradford's on Galveston Island, and McCord's ..........
at Hempstead. General Hawes' infantry brigade is the only brigade not widely scattered.
To withdraw the troops from points now occupied in order to make the changes necessary
to carry into effect the proposed organization would involve great expense, and while the
changes are in progress would leave important points undefended. ....

Again, the above proposals were just proposals.
.
THE BOURLAND PAPERS contain 43 letters to and from McCulloch that are not in the OFFICIAL EECORD, but should be.
