Lane's 1st Partisan Rangers, formed in San Augustine, Texas, started out with about 1,000 men, but after the battle of Dripping Springs they were down to about 300. Many of the 700 were likely captured at that battle, and some probably made their way back home. My research indicates that the men listed as part of the 1st Partisan Rangers from San Augustine, originally Lane's Rangers, were those that finished the war, so there are many unrecorded names of men who served.
