..I, Wm ? Coffman, Col. Commanding 3rd Regiment Texas Cavalry, do certify that I have carefully examined the above muster roll of Capt Andrew J. Nicholson and I find that I can respond that they were mustered into the state service as Infantry on the 17th day of June this 1861 and served as such till the 29th day of July 1861 and then were to mount as Cavalry. That said company served as Infantry until the 25th day of June when they were moved from the Infantry Service and are entitled to pay as Cavalry to the 2nd day of October 1861 when the Regiment was mustered into the Service of the Confederate States.

After transcribing a 23-inch stack of handwritten records, I've encountered many hard-to-read hand-written documents, but this is doozie. .. Since my first edition was published years ago, I've tried to identify all of the people and places mentioned. Yes, I have little labeled stacks all over my living room so that I can quickly retrieve a page to reread. And I'm happy to report that I have identified all, save this guy in question, in the text and militia correspondence sections of my book.

If you have access to Liberty or Shelby County 1861 TST militia data, please help.
