This is no hard "proof" that even men in company "A" of the Seventh wore them although folklore has it Granbury had them on his coat when he was killed. There is evidence that company "A" men of the 7th were called the "Waco Rifles", not the "Waco Guards" as usually believed. Based on the locations of the found buttons and the so-called "Waco Guards" belt plates, it is apparant that men not in company A of the 7th Texas wore them, including the company in the 10th that were from the Waco area and possibly men in the 8th Texas cavalry (Terry's Rangers) and the 6th Texas Cav(Sul Ross). However, to my knowledge no soldier in the 10th spoke of the button nor was there any found in family estates. Speculation is that the buttons were made for the local militia men and in fact were given to any soldier needing them (there were two seperate orders). The Waco area saw 17 companies formed here.
