Re: The First Vicksburg Campaign

I have already found problems with Bearss' THE CAMPAIGN FOR VICKSBURG Order of Battle. He was completely wrong about Henry W. Bridges Texas Battalion which was outside the Vicksburg perimeter. It was in no way an Arkansas unit and Bridges was doing handy work for S.D. Lee. Ras Stirman had a battalion that had lost two companies back to the 6th and 9th Texas Cavalries. Could some one have mistaken Waul's Legion for the 1st Texas Legion (aka 27th Texas Cavalry). The campaign write up was not specific. I doubt that very many troops could have been on the land, much less boats. Grant gave up after losing a couple of boats and his failure to capture Ft Pemberton. More shady Union History.
