Vicki...You may also find this interesting. Smith County issued a $10 note as late as January 4,1865. Signed by the Chief Justice S.D.Gibbs. This is quite unusual. Most of the Texas counties issued their notes in 1862.

In addition the following two Smith County commercial script notes have survived:

Stean's Saline. $2.00. April 1st. 1862. Signed by A.J.Morris. W.Morris signed on reverse.

Cousins & Sharp.$1.00.July 10,1862. Signed by Jesse F.Rasbury.

In general only a handfull of these Texas notes are known today. It is probable many more private and county notes were issued and have not survived. They were just so much trash back in those days and not preserved.
