Re: Capt W.R. Elliott; Co I, DeMorse's 29th Cavalr

I have been researching the members of Co I. 29th Texas, I think the one listed here may be the wrong W.R. Elliott. I do not have anything conclusive as yet, I hope to find the court martial on this man within the next year and perhaps that will clear it up. However, my reasoning is this....Co I was recruited mostly in Red River and Bowie Counties by Captain Jim Clark, son of the founder of Clarksville, Red River County, TX and step son of a wealthy slave holder. Elliott was 1st Lieutenant, the other two lieutenants were both from Bowie County R. P. Duty and John H. Beaty. The W.R. Elliott I believe to be the correct man is the 21 year old son of B. E. Elliott a wealthy slave holder in Boston, Bowie county. Since these officers were selected based on election, I think that, despite his age this W.R. Elliott was more likely to have been elected than William Elliott of Denton County a farmer who owned no land. I will let you know when I have definite proof, or not.
