The Texas in the Civil War Message Board

McCord's Frontier Regt, TX State Troops & C.S.A.

Cheyrl Velten,
.
If I were you, I'd order your John Clark's C.S.A. regimental returns from the our webmaster (to help support this message board) rather than the National Archives in Wash D.C.

http://history-sites.com/research/index.html

Your Clark was in Company H of J.E. McCord’s 46th Frontier Cavalry, Confederate States of America, effective after May 1, 1864.
.
If you want to submit this to UDC, you want the official C.S.A. regimental cards described above, not Texas State Troop records.

Your John Clark John Clark was in Company H of J.E. McCord’s 2nd Frontier Cavalry, TST active before May 1, 1864,
.
I think you saw the 3x5-inch index cards in the Texas State Archives and Library in Austin TX. I understand that the Texas Adjutant General's office records were typed onto about 40,000 3x5-inch index cards as a WPA project.
.
Below is an article about the TSLA that I edited for STIRPES, the quarterly for the Texas State Genealogical Society.

Texas State Library Building Getting a Facelift
.
by Erica McKewen of Austin, Texas
.
The Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building, home of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, is getting a facelift! This is good news for both our customers and our staff, as the 46-year-old building has been in great need of renovation. We expect construction work on the two-year renovation to begin in September 2007, but some important changes are afoot now that may impact your research with us. Please read on! We are pleased that we'll be able to stay open throughout most of the renovation; however, services will be limited, and much of our collection will be moved offsite. As with any construction project, unexpected events may cause us to close for certain brief periods. We urge researchers to call ahead when planning a trip to our facility. The telephone number is 512-463-5455. With advance notice, the official state records of Texas stored offsite can be retrieved for you. Unfortunately a portion of our collection will be inaccessible during the renovation.
