Re: Petition to protect VA Cemeteries!

The lost cemetery to which Sheri refers was at "Dungarvon", in Hanover County. Dungarvon was the home of my Sydnor, Garland, and Seabrook ancestors, and two documented and historic cemeteries were on the property. Both were destroyed by a housing development. Despite many objections, the bodies were removed in a most disrespectful fashion and McMansions were built; all within the weak limits of the law.

Virginia needs stronger cemetery laws on the books. My family and I am fortunate that another privately owned Cumberland County family cemetery where my immediate ancestors rest is respected and cared for by its present owners, but this is simple luck. Please do take a look at this petition - it is a most worthy cause.

Thank you.
