Re: Confederate cemetary in Resaca GA

Hi Mary Jane,

I suspected that your ancestor may have served with my gr-gr-grandfather in the 54th Virginia Infantry, and upon checking the unit history, I find that he did indeed serve in the 54th. His brother Iredell enlisted with him and served in the same regiment. The 54th was a very unique unit in that it was one of only 2 Virginia infantry units assigned permanently to the Army of Tennessee and fought in most of the battles in the Western theatre.

Goad, Hiram - Company G, ENLISTED 9/16/1861 at Dugspur. Absent sick in hospital on 12/31/63 muster roll, Killed in Action at Resaca, GA on 5/15/1864. Born circa 1825. Brother of Iredell.

Goad, Iredell - Company G, enlisted 9/16/1861 at Dugspur. Present on 1/1/62 and 12/31/63 muster roll. Killed in Action 5/15/1864 at Resaca, GA. Born circa 1832.

Hope this helps,

John
