I got this info from the regimental history series book for the 34th. I have a detailed family history for my mothers family that goes back to the early 1800's, including a nice family tree breakdown that allowed me to track lots of civil war veterans, and I found over twenty. But this is one of them that didn't have much info with the family history or in the regimental book. We can speculate on lots of possible reasons for resigning. I did find another Philip Yeatman in the roster cards listed as a leading sergeant. So since he's listed a coming in as a second Lieutenant and mustering out as the same, maybe he could have given up his commission due to a shortage of NCO's and then later have gotten it back. I could also speculate that since he signed on with the old 8th artillery that he didn't like life in the Infantry once the 34th was formed and tried to resign. Being in Charlottesville, It's only about and hour and a half to go hit the civil war archives in Richmond, maybe I'll make the trip some day soon.
