Re: when a co has a "sub co"; what is this called?

For tactical purposes, an artillery company usually operated in sections composed of two guns each. A lieutenant was in command of a section. If there were three sections, there were six guns in the battery. If there was a fourth lieutenant, he commanded the limbers with extra ammuntion.
