Great observation on historians. I wouldn't want to mention anyone (McPherson and Coski come to mind) but you are right on the money. You really have to look for new research done by competent scholars. Working for the NPS and sitting around in an air conditioned office next to a battlefield doesn't make you an expert on events that happened 145 years ago. I've heard some of the stupidest and most ignorant statements by some of these so called experts. If you are ever fed a line of crap and you know it as such. Question the source. They hate that.
