Samaria Church (called St. Mary's in Federal reports) is in Charles City County. It's approx. 6 miles NNW of Wilcox Landing on The James River. You can draw a straight line from Wilcox Landing through Charles City Courthouse to Samaria Church. It is situated 6 miles E of Malvern Hill. All of this being on the southside of The Chickahominy River and in Charles City County. Tunstall Staion is where State Route 609 (Old Church Road) and The Richmond-York River Railroad intersect. Old Church Road was basically JEB Stuarts eastern route from Hanover on his ride around McClellen. St. Peter's Church is off Route 609 east of Tunstall Station. (George and Martha Washington were married in this church) There are several photos I've seen of large numbers of Federal troops in the churchyard in '62. The Richmond-York River Railroad was the rail line from White House Landing to Richmond. Following the rail line west to Richmond after leaving Tunstall Station you would come to Summit Staion at the intersection of the rail line and State Rt. 611 and next is Dispatch Station at the intersection of the rail line and State Rt. 613. All of these locations being north of The Chickahominy River and in New Kent County. I live a half mile from Summit Station. I'm not sure if any of the Samaria Church structure remains or if there is a graveyard at the site. But I will check it out on Saturday after I finish a tour of Malvern Hill Battlefield with about a dozen 11 and 12 year old Scouts.
