The 51st Virginia Militia was indeed from Frederick County, Virginia. It was commanded by Colonel Charles Shryock and was mustered into service June 13 & 14, 1861, by order of General James H. Carson of the 16th Brigade Virginia Militia, and on June 18, 19 and 20, 1861, by orders of General Joseph E. Johnston. Company E and G also served from July 3, 1861 until March 25, 1862.
