I have all the census records and birth records and marriage records for Ignatius. What I am really looking for is his Civil War information. His fourth born, Allan, was my great-grandfather. I want to know if there is any other records other than a one week stint in the confederate army. Family stories indicate that he came home at the end of the war in a very weary and sad state. Clothes were ragged and his beard was overgrown and imbedded with vermin. He was placed in bed and tended to until he recovered. That doesn't sound like a week-long stint.
Twins were born to the Coopers in 1864, so we can assume he was at home during the Civil War, but did he pick up his rifle and return to the battle fields? I appreciate any opinion that you all may have. Looking for information among those who are Civil War historians is the only way I can verify or disprove the recorded family stories.
Thanks for your opinions - even if they are only opinions.
