Hello Lee,

According to Volume XV of the Southern Historical Society Papers:

Capt. S. B. Brown, Company C, 39th Virginia Cavalry Battalion appears on a list of men titled, "Officers on Duty at the Headquarters of the Army of Northern Virginia". This list of paroled men was made at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865.

Brown also signed the paroles of 78 of his men, who comprised the escort for R.E. Lee.
