As Mr. Hurd said, the 30th was a part of Wharton's Brigade and assigned to the Department of Southwest Virginia between April and October, 1863.

Emery & Henry College served as a hospital throughout the war and was serviced by the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad that ran between Lynchburg and Bristol, Virginia.

There are several good books on these Southwestern Hospitals, especially the ones at Lynchburg.
