Only 27 men from the brigade were paroled at Appomattox. The rest broke through and proceeded to be paroled at various points in the months ahead.

A Mr. Dan Bailey, of Tazewell, Virginia has in his possession, the correspondence of one Pvt. Wiley K. Newton, Co. F, 22nd Virginia Cavalry. Pvt. Newton was KIA at New Creek Station VA on 8/5/64.

Also the Russell County Historical Society in Lebanon, Virginia has papers and correspondence of troopers from the county. Said troopers having served in the 16th, 21st, and 22nd Va. Cavalry Regiments.
