Perry Money enlisted as a Private in Captain George N. Tyler's Cavalry Company 64th Virginia Volunteers** September 24, 1862 at Hickory Flatts, captured at Cumberland Gap, September 19, 1863, sent to Camp Douglas Prison Camp, Illinois, mustered into the 5th U. S. Volunteeer Infantry, April 24, 1865,

**This company appears to have been formed by the consolidation of Companies D and E, 29th Battalion Virginia Infantry. It subsequently became Company K, 64th Regiment Virginia Mounted Infantry

On May 3, 1865, General Dodge, commanding the Department of the Missouri, issued a special order: "Colonel H. E. Maynadier, 5th U. S. Volunteers, with the officers and enlisted men of the regiment now at Alton, Illinois will proceed by steamer without delay to Fort Leavenworth."

Colonel Maynadier, a West Point graduate, commanded the 5th Regiment, "Galvanized Yankees," most of the time from Fort Laramie, which was the center of action in 1865-66.
