Captain Young's Company Virginia Cavalry (also known as Howitzers and as Marine Artillery) was organized July 6, 1861, and served as a Harbor Guard for Norfolk, Va., and vicinity. It was mustered into C. S. service October 31, 1861, as cavalry, but it served as an artillery organization and appears to have been known as Young's Battery of Heavy Artillery in 1864 and 1865
