Thank You Mr. Chapla
Sorry to say I do not have any pictures, or letters from my Great Great Grandfather. My Aunt compiled a loose family history of the family when her family moved back to Virginia. To me his name stood out, it seemed to belong more to a statesman or a planter, not a farmer from Pig Creek P.O. Va. I started my search on the internet, and with some great help from the historian of the 42nd co I, was directed to your book about the unit. To add to the history his brothers were also listed, two more died in battle, one from wounds recieved in battle, and the last one from illness. I have also found my Great Great Grandmothers application and approval for a widows pension granted in 1883 from the state of Virginia. One last question his enlistment shows Pig Creek P.O. Franklin Co. Va. Does the P.O. stand for post office? There is a Pig Creek in Patrick Co. Va. and a Pigg River P.O. in Franklin Co.
Thank You for all you help....
