Re: John H. Boon(e) 1863, 7th Va Cav.

George,

Thanks for the helpful information... Another person told me, that they tried
to locate the original application that Ruth Boone had filed on July 13th, 1863;
But that, No such application was ever found; (but that it was logged down that
she did file a claim; dated on July 13th, 1863). As for why they couldn't find
any original application for her claim. The guy told "me" that: Since before
the war, John and wife Ruth lived in old Hardy and Hampshire County, part of
Old Virginia territory, but after the war; that part of Hardy and Hampshire Co,
"Old" Va., was now considered "present day" West Virginia territory. And, the
state of Virginia wouldn't honor "or" accept any Confederate Claim's from other
Non-Confederate States - like "present day" Hardy and Hampshire Co, W.Va. That,
her claim was probably denied; and so they didn't keep it on record, but did
keep it as "logged and applied" and filed on July 13th, 1863.

I'm also "guessing" that Ruth E. Boone (must have died sometime after the 1870s
Census Records; taken in Sherman, Romney, Hampshire Co, W.Va.); because I can't
find her under the 1880 Census. And it's not certain, weither she remarried or
not...

What would the claim have been for? I know you said in your other e-mail
that it was for a settlement. A settlement for what? The cost of his horse
"if also killed in battle?" I've read that somewhere - that most Cavalrymen
Soldier's were compensated for the loss of their horse, during a battle, and
which in most cases: The "Soldier" brought his very own personal horse with
him; when enlisting into the Civil War... So I doubt, Ruth lived long enough
to file a "Widow's Pension."

But could a surviving child file for a pension? Because my G.G.G.-Grandfather
Joseph Jasper Boon(e) was John and Ruth's eldest child and son. And he stayed
in the Hardy and Hampshire Co, W.Va., area, until his death - in 1914.

Thanks for your help on this...

Have a great day,
Rebecca Wilson
