Around this time Meade wrote Grant, "The morale of the troops is not what I should like it to be."

I hope this is it.

"We have taken prisoners from each of the divisions of Hill's corps. The morale of the men is not as good as I would it, but I deem it of the utmost consequence to take the offensive. Scouts on our left report Wilson at Reams' Station, on the Weldon railroad, at 10 a.m. to-day. They say he burned the station and did other damage, but on retiring was attacked by cavalry and infantry." June 22, 1864. Meade to Grant, O.R. Series I, Vol XL, pt 2, 304.
