114th Militia Infantry Regiment Virginia. [Hampshire County, [West] Virginia]
Moore, Alexander, Col., 1861
This regiment was called out by the Proclamation of the Governor dated July 13, 1861, to rendezvous at Winchester. It appears to have served from July 14, 1861 to some time in April, 1862, when broken up. Some members of this regiment are reported to have volunteered, and served in companies which afterwards served in the 18th Regt. Va. Cav. and 33rd Regt. Va. Inf.
Co A = Capt Josiah W. Hardy's Co
Co B = Capt John H. Pile's Co
Co D = Capt Alfred A. Brill's Co
Co E = Capt Davis K. Hughly's Co
Co F = Capt William Wolford's Co
Co G = Capt Simon W. Swisher's Co
Co K = Capt Thomas H. McMakin's Co

18th Regt Va Cav
Imboden, George William, Col.
The 18th Regt Va Cav was organized about December 15, 1862, with ten companies, A to K, most of the members of which had previously served in the 1st Regt Va Partisan Rangers (subsequently the 62nd Regt Va Inf). By Special Order #251, A&IGO, dated October 27, 1862, Col J D Imboden, 1st Regt Va Partisan Rangers, was authorized to "organize his cavalry into a battalion commanded by a Major," but no record of a separate battalion organization has been found. Rolls of this regiment show that George W. Imboden served as major of that regiment until elected Colonel, December 11, 1862. A&IGO roster (Chap. I, Vol. 92, p. 262) indicates that the cavalry companies served as part of the old organization until this regiment was reorganized.
