Re: Looking for Rector PILES/Pyles from Va/W.Va.

Dear. Roger,

Hello, there. Thanks for getting back with me, regarding my G.G.G.Grandfather
Rector PILES/Pyles. Yes, I was told by other Piles/Pyles kinfolks, that Rector
was buried there at the Rock Oak Cemetery. I also believe his wife Maria Ellen
(Saville) Piles is buried there also, but I'm not certian. And I think a few
of his children or in-laws are buried there as well.

No, I am not related to the Rigglemans. But here are some of the (surnames)
that I am related to: (Mostly through my PILES/Pyles side of the family)

Asbury - married into the Saville Family (Maria E Saville-Piles Maternal side);

Bethel - married into the Asbury Family (Maria's Maternal Grandmother's side);

Bean - married into the Piles Family (Rector's two daughters married a Bean);

Virginia Margaret Piles (m) Alfred Jeremiah Bean (his second wife),and

Francelia Belle Piles (m) Jacob Anthony Bean.

Boon(e)- married into the Piles Family (My line through my Maternal G-Grandma);

Dean - married into my Boon(e) Family (Sarah Catherine Dean had several siblings

(Brother)Aaron Dean (m) Maria Cheshire, Benjamin Anthony Dean (m) Sarah

Elizabeth Hannas, and Sarah C. Dean also had two sisters: I believe their

names were: Bellzury (Belle) Dean, and Margaret Dean.

Liller - married into the Piles Family (Rector's eldest son John William Piles

(m) Susan V. Liller, and Rector's daughter Anna "Annie" Catherine Piles

(m) Isaac Nathaniel Liller "Susan's older brother."

Poland - married into the Piles Family (Rector's daughter Mary Melissa "Mollie"

Piles (m) Richard H. (aka) James Reuben "Ruby" Poland.

Snoeberger - married into the Piles Family (Rector's daughter Lorena Ellen Piles
Snowberger (m) Charles Shelley Snoeberger/Snowberger.

But, I know I've read (somewhere) in one of my family databases; that someone
married into the Bowman Family. But I believe it was the Bowman's from the Win-
chester, Frederick Co, Virginia., area. My Mom's Paternal and Maternal side are
both from Winchester, Va. Her (Father's side) are NEWLIN (but their aka Newland);
and her (Mother's side) are SNAPP.

But I do believe the Haines, Heare, Hott and Oats Families are also tide in with
my Saville Family from Hampshire Co, West Virginia., too.

I say, just about EVERYONE from Virginia and West Virginia are RELATED somehow!
(Hee-Hee) :)

(What a minute; I just found some people that are linked to the Bowmans): On my
SAVILLE side: (Here's who married who):

Isaac Saville and Deliliah (Asbury) Saville's (daughter) Ruth Ann(e) Saville (m)
Henry Bowman; and their (son) Isaac Henry Saville (m) Mary Jane Bowman. Ruth and
Isaac were siblings to my G.G.G.-Grandmother Maria Ellen (Saville) Piles.

Hope this will be of some help to you... I was told by another Pyles cousin, that
Rector PILES/Pyles served in the Civil War with his "Brother-in-law" Peter Asbury
Saville; and a Heare, and I believe the guy is also buried that at the Rock Oak
Cemetery.

I'm having a hard time finding Rector and Maria's Birth, Marriage and Death records
(under the West Virginia Culture of Division Website). So I'm wondering if they
were destroyed by a fire, during the Civil War. I was told the following dates for:
Rector Piles (b) December 8th, 1832-33 "either in Oldtown, Maryland (or) Hampshire
Co, "Old" Va./W.Va. He (d) May 6th, 1907 (I'm assuming in Kirby, Hampshire Co, W.Va;
and Maria(h) Ellen Saville was (b) March 21st, 1836 in Hampshire Co, "Old" Va./W.Va.;
and she (d) February 5th, "or" some say September 5th, 1907 (I'm assuming in Hampshire
Co, W.Va.) I was told they got married on September 2nd, 1851, in Hampshire Co, "Old"
Va./W.Va. But for some reason, the On-line W.V. Website doesn't go back that far on
the dates that I'm needing... :(

I'm still trying to find out who Rector's parents were. One lady under the LDS (or)
Ancestry website said Rector's parents were: John H. Piles and Susannah Elizabeth
Ruckman. But another Pyles cousin said; he found a Hampshire Guardianship Book (under
the Hampshire County Records 1816-1923 Guardian Bonds for Virginia/West Virginia dated
August 23rd, 1852; (that stated that Rector Piles (Mother) was Nancy Piles (who before
her death in 1849, warded (it says orphans) over to Reason Haines and Josiah Constable).

And under the 1850 Census Records: I was able to locate Rector Piles (17) living not
with Reason Haines, but next door to him, with a John Jefferson Haines and his family.
But I figured out WHY... Ole' Rector was a sly dog, because guess who lived right next
door to John J. Haines? Isaac Saville and his family (which his daughter Maria would
end up marrying Rector Piles, the following year)... I'm assuming John J. Haines was a
relation to Reason Haines (somehow); whether a brother or a cousin. But, I also found
on the previous Census page (under the same 1850 Census); where a young John Piles (13)
was also living with a Joseph Haines and his family... It makes me (wonder): Could it
be, that Rector Piles' other sibling was that of young John Piles? Perhaps their
(Mother) Nancy was either a Haines, (or) related to them in some way... I'm also
assuming that Rector's (Father) must have been deceased, for his sick Mother to ward
her children over to Reason Haines...

The lady on the LDS (or) Ancestry website also said: That Rector's Grandparents were
Zachariah Piles and Hannah Mitchel - from Maryland. And Zachariah and Hannah did have
a son named John H. Piles, as well as a daughter Nancy Piles. So, this only confuses
my research... If Nancy was Rector's Mother. Then either she married another Piles
cousin; or the Pyles cousin suggested Rector was illegitimate. I doubt Nancy would
have had two illegitimate children... And Zachariah and Hannah also had a son named
Benjamin Piles; (which I found living just a few houses away from Rector Piles under
the 1850 Census. And, I found where both Rector Piles and this same young John Piles
both served (together) in the 18th Virginia Cavalry Regiment, (where they both served
under Captain John H. Piles); which I am assuming was possible their Uncle or Cousin;
who wanted to keep a close watch on Rector and younger John Piles... I'm not sure if
Capt. John H. Piles (was Nancy's older brother or not); or whether he was a cousin
who also had the same name as her brother, possible could have been John H. Piles Sr's
son...(?)

Anyway. Maybe some of this information will help you out with your questions about
Ole' Rector Piles "that sly dog." :) I bet he was a charactor...

Rector's youngest child and daughter Carrie Wade Piles (m) my Great-Great-Grandfather
Joseph McNelion (Mack) Boone, (when Rector and his family moved to Hardy Co, "Old" Va/
present day W.Va.) In fact, you will find the young married couple, living with her
(parents) Rector and Mariah Piles, at the Snyder Store, in Hardy Co, W.Va., under the
1900 Census.

Do you know if there's an old picture of this "Snyder Store?" I would love to see
what it looked like, during the 1900s.

Well. Take care, Roger. And "Thanks" again, for responding to my "query."

Hope you have a "blessed" New Year...

Rebecca Wilson.
