According to John Horn in both his books on Petersburg, Mahone followed the ravine today empties today in Wilcox Lake. He used the same ravine again on August 19th.

I recall visiting with William D. Henderson many years ago at his home in Chesterfield. He drew all the troop positions of the battle onto USGS maps. He appeared to know the battle inside out. I bet if you met with him, he'd let you copy those maps.
